The frustrating week that was


As the title suggests I’ve had a rather frustrating week and a half. There are a number of reasons for this though the number one is that I’ve had no motivation to do any dev work. I dabbled here and there but mostly I found myself getting caught up in future outcomes that, while exciting, just ended up looking farther and farther out of reach. Add on top of this the fact that I’ve have started getting really easily distracted (it’s unfortunate that most of my work requires a computer; the thing that chains me to any number of non-work-related outlets).

To summarise, distraction leads to no work, no work leads to grumpiness, grumpiness leads to frustration. Having this cycle carry on for days is even more frustrating so I’ve decided to try something new…

For the next week I will force myself to:

  • Come up with a new game idea every day. It doesn’t need to be well formed nor even particularly mind blowing just something to keep the creative juices flowing
  • Drink tea more often. Tea is to me what spinach is to Popeye; it makes me awesome.
  • Avoid web-based distractions even if this means switching off WiFi at times D:
  • Step away from my work and do something else for a little while, even if it’s just eating lunch somewhere else. Sometimes the best ideas come when you aren’t thinking too much about it (there’s our old pal serendipity again).

I’ll update on how I go next week sometime.

Now stop reading this and go do the work you no doubt are supposed to be doing right now…
